At the extraordinary EU Speakers’ Conference on 12 December and the preceding meeting of the Secretaries-General on 7 December, a process of open deliberation was launched in order to prepare debate on interparliamentary cooperation as a consequence of the Lisbon Treaty.

The EUSC Presidency was given a coordinating role in the process. As for the Swedish Presidency, this responsibility will last until the ordinary Speakers’ Conference on 14-15 May 2010.

The use of new technology was given particular emphasis by parliaments at the December meetings. In this spirit it was concluded that a forum on IPEX should be set up as a platform for debate. It is this forum you are now about to enter.

The forum is restricted to the parliaments of the EU member states and the European Parliament.
