In principle, all the standing committees of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey discuss European affairs in so far as the specialized areas for which they are responsible.
The EU Harmonisation Committee on the harmonisation with the EU was established on 15 April 2003 with a view to contributing to Turkey – EU relations. It keeps a close eye on developments in the EU regarding Turkey’s accession process. It helps to the harmonisation of the Turkish legislation vis-à-vis acquis communataire. The successful work of the Commission has been mentioned in the latest “Progress Report” of Turkey prepared by the EU Commission.
EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee, established on the basis of the resolutions of European Parliament's and the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in 1965, has the task to deliberate on all matters relating to Turkey's relations with the European Communities, in particular on the basis of the annual report of the Association Council. The Commission has held discussions on the relations between the Community, later the Union, and Turkey.
The EU Affairs Unit to Foreign Relations and Protocol Directorate has been established on
the 26th of June 2007
in the GNAT. Its main duty is envisaged to support Members of EU Harmonization Committee in terms of legislative and executive functions as well as to carry out all the activities of the Committee and GNAT with the EU and its institutions.
